Origin of power-law X-ray emission in the Steep power-law state of X-ray Binaries

چکیده
We present a new scenario of the emissive origin in the Steep Power Law (SPL) state of X-ray Binaries. The power-law component of X-ray emission is the synchrotron radiation of relativistic electrons in highly magnetized compact spots orbiting near the inner stable circular orbit (ISCO) of black hole and has a hard spectrum that extends to above MeV bands determined by electron acceleration rate. These photons are then down-scattered by the surrounding plasma and form an observed steep spectrum. The relevance of this model with high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (HFQPOs) and extremely high luminosity of the SPL state is discussed. A model of the steep power law spectra and high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations in luminous black hole X-ray binaries
We propose a new model of the steep power law state of luminous black hole X-ray binaries. The model uses the fact that at high luminosities, radiation pressure dominated accretion discs become effectively optically thin. The gas temperature therefore rises sharply inwards, producing local saturated Compton spectra with rapidly increasing peak energy. These spectra sum together to form a steep ...
متن کاملEvolution of Hard X-ray Spectra along the Branches in Cir X-1
Using the data from the PCA and HEXTE on board the RXTE satellite, we investigate the evolution of the 3-200 keV spectra of the peculiar low mass X-ray binary (LMXB) Cir X-1 along the branches on its hardness-intensity diagram (HID) from the vertical horizontal branch (VHB), through the horizontal horizontal branch (HHB) and normal branch (NB), to the flaring branch (FB). We detect a power-law ...
متن کاملSpectral State Transitions of the Ultraluminous X-ray Sources X-1 and X-2 in Ngc 1313
X-ray spectral state transitions are a key signature of black hole X-ray binaries and follow a well-defined pattern. We examined 12 XMM-Newton observations of the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 1313, which harbors two compact ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs), X-1 and X-2, in order to determine if the state transitions in ULXs follow the same pattern. For both sources, the spectra were adequately fi...
متن کاملForty Years of X-Ray Binaries
In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...
متن کاملEvidence for Intrinsic Magnetic Moments in Black Hole Candidates
We present evidence that the power law part of the quiescent x-ray emissions of neutron stars in low mass x-ray binaries is magnetospheric in origin. It can be very accurately calculated from known rates of spin and magnetic moments obtained from the ∼ 103−4 times brighter luminosity at the hard spectral state transition. This strongly suggests that the spectral state transition to the low hard...
